At Etalab, we believe that communities are as important as digital tools and resources. It's the users and contributors that give purpose to the tools, by channeling real impact. In order to mobilize and empower these communities, we host events regularly: open data camps, hackathons, workshops, conferences, meet ups... Organizing these events can be very time and energy consuming without the right tools. Conference and call for proposals managers, ticketing software, platforms to manage hackathon projects : this is our collection of open source event management tools.

DemocracyBox

DemocracyBox a toolbox for participatory democracy DemocracyBox is a mobile digital tool build with RaspBerry Pi 3 and WiFi antenna to help the collaborative / cooperative work of (groups of) citizens when they don't have internet access (or don't want to be on the Internet - think activists) The idea is to bring together in one, identified, place (disconnected from internet - piratebox mode) the working documents and resources needed for citizens democratic workshops and free and open source collaborative tools. Between the meetings, participants will be able to continue the work remotely when the DemocracyBox is (re)connected to an internet provider box. The box will be cheap, and simple for everyone.

OpenBudget.fr is a French nonprofit organisation that aims to create public, private, civil society innovative consortiums in order to build a real time budget data and algorithm (numeric) common for French administrations. Its objective is to implement a concrete, large scale tools trial to experiment the use of innovative civic-tech tool in the existing public budget decision making and transparency. These are the tools that are going to be tested in France in the next months.

Tools to support the OGP process

OGP was launched in 2011 to provide an international platform for domestic reformers committed to making their governments more open, accountable, and responsive to citizens. Since then, OGP has grown from 8 countries to 75 participating countries. In all of these countries, government and civil society are working together to develop and implement ambitious open government reforms. To become a member of OGP, participating countries must endorse a high-level Open Government Declaration, deliver a country action plan developed with public consultation, and commit to independent reporting on their progress going forward. Digital tools can help simplify, accelerate and dynamise this process. These are the tools that have been developed and tested by administrations from the OGP community up to date.
